Euro-Asian Jewish (EAJ) Policy Papers, No 2, (Nov 27, 2018)

An acute crisis has undermined the flourishing economic, diplomatic, and cultural relations between Israel and Russia. This crisis was the result of an incident that occurred on September 23, 2018, as part of which Moscow imposed on Israel the responsibility for downing a Russian aircraft. This led to a flurry of anti-Israeli references and debates in the Russian media. This policy paper addresses the question of whether this recent anti-Israeli wave reflects a broader anti-Semitic sentiment in the Russian public, or is it, rather, a sporadic episode? Sociological studies and public opinion polls offer a somewhat ambivalent response to this question.
