Contemporary Azerbaijan Jewry includes three subethnic Jewish groups (Mountain, Georgian and Ashkenazi Jews) and thus demonstrate peculiar collective identity. This identity is a subject of close relationship with the state of birth, high level of Azeri language proficiency, as well as a strong sense of involvement into political processes within and around their home country and believe of belonging to its history. Azerbaijani Jewry represents a model of peaceful coexistence in a multicultural society with a predominantly Muslim population. This provides good conditions for development of Jewish community life and a positive background for relations between Jerusalem and Baku.
